Wii Motion Plus

Wii Motion Plus

Wii Motion PlusWii’s motion plus will NOT be backward compatabile. Which is a shame if you planned on getting some serious points in Wii classics like Baseball or boxing.

The new Wii Motion remotes is far more specific and precision orientated beside the now ’old’ wii remotes. In a nutshell, the new remote allow position sensing, whereas the old remote only had rotation sensing. So for example, with the new remote sword fights are possible with some level of realism, but on the old remote, its very much a pray and stab affair.

But why no backwards compatability? Some are saying its just Nintendo taking advantage of the market. After all, what use is it to Nintento if you buy the new Wii remotes and then go and play old games? Far better if you buy new wii motion remotes, and then buy new games to go along with them! Even if they are just the old games rehashed and released under a new guise (think Wii Sports summer resorts with a few frisbees thrown in for ’newness’).

Yes we’re cynical of the move. We haven’t come across any convincing argument why the new Wii remotes cannot be used with the old games. Apart from greed. But we’re open to correction if anybody cares to do so.

At the time of writing it looks like Virtua Tennis and Tiger Woods golf will be the first games to be compatabile with the new Wii remotes.  The good (albeit minor) news is that the new remotes are priced at $20 - at least its not going to cost a fortune to have the snazy new remotes hooked up, even if you still have to buy the new games to use them.
